Virgin Media have today launched their TV Anywhere service, two months after their initial announcement regarding the service.

The service is available to all Virgin TV customers at no additional costs, via a web browser, smartphone or tablet.

Viewers have access to live TV channels based on their current TV subscription package, as well as thousands of hours of on-demand catchup TV, movies and sport.

Virgin Tivo customers may also manage their box and set shows to record on the Tivo box.

Now that the service is live, some limitations are appearing:

  • only Apple iOS (iPad and iPhone) are supported, however Android support is allegedly coming in early 2013.
  • In the press release in September Virgin said PC browsers were supported -- this transpires as Internet Explorer or Firefox; no Chrome.
  • Some shows, especially US offerings, have a viewing restriction of one device.   As part of your setup you can nominate one Primary device and this would be the only one able to view these shows.
  • Access is via broadband only; no support for 3G mobile data.
