Twitter is 8 years old today. Born 21 March 2006 out from the mind of Jack Dorsey, and initially known as 'twttr', the concept took a day to come up.

Now eight years on Twitter processes over 500million Tweets every day!

The 140 character limit at times can be frustrating. The original Twitter was designed to be used on a mobile phone via text messages -- which had a limit of 160 characters. The 140 limit has stuck throughout the years and there are no plans to change it.

To celebrate its birthday Twitter have a page where you can look up your very first tweet, or that of any one else.
