Office 2013 logoMicrosoft Home Office 2013 has arrived, however with an interesting twist in the licensing model.

Rather than the traditional purchase method they now rent the software package to you.

The pay-as-you-go license may be rented month to month or yearly.  Your license permits installation on five devices including PC/Mac and tablets/phones.  A streaming version is also available for any computer where you have an internet connection.  20GB of SkyDrive storage is thrown in too.

Perhaps in a short-sighted, or even stubborn move, Microsoft have decided not to release versions of Office for Apple's iOS or Android devices.

The rental model includes free upgrades for the duration of your payment plan.

Home Office Premium costs £7.99 per month, £79.99 per year or for a flat fee of £110 but no upgrades.  The rental model is available for 'home use' only and could be interesting for those who have five potential users.

Business users must still purchase outright or enter into a volume licensing agreement.
