The iPhone was announced on January 9th 2007 but it was on the 29 June 2007 it launched the USA.  It was a big day for Apple with their share price hitting £62.77 -- a high for the time.  It was not until November 2007 that the phone shipped to the UK, France and Germany.

Fast forward to 2012 and the iPhone is 5 years old, having sold an estimated 250million units.

Since the original launch the iPhone has had five iterations, with the iPhone 4S being the current model.  The iPad also appeared on the scene in 2010 -- initially no one was convinced we needed a tablet but soon demand rocketed.

Today Apple's share price is a staggering  £367.

No one can deny that the iPhone has changed the way we all use mobile devices. Nokia and Blackberry have failed to keep up with consumer expectations and are no longer phone leaders.  Digital camera sales have slumped as mobile phones continue to have better built-in cameras.  Google helped develop the Android mobile operating system and now has its own line of hardware with the recently announce Nexus.

Who knows where we will be in 5 years, however regardless of your personal feelings towards Apple one thing is for sure, Apple changed the way we all use mobile technology.
