In a somewhat low-key affair, Google have opened its first 'store' -- it's not technically a store, but more of a presence within an existing store.  It is located within a section of the PC World/Currys store in Tottenham Court Road,London, UK.  It is the first Google retail outlet anywhere around the globe and is an experiment by Google to gauge reaction to the idea.

The store will exclusively educate and sell the Chromebook, previously only  available on-line.  Prices are £349 for the wi-fi only version and £399 to include 3G connectivity.

"Specially trained Chromebook experts will be on hand to offer guidance and advice to shoppers", the company said in a statement. We’ve put a great deal of thought into the design of this Chrome Zone," said Arvind Desikan, head of consumer marketing for Google in the UK and Ireland.

An additional store is planned for Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, UK on the 7 October, with others in the pipeline.

This initial experiment will run until the Christmas period -- traditionally the busiest quarter for technology retailers.
