Despite all the signs of impending doom, Blackberry are keen to let us all know they are in it for the long haul and are still here!

In an open letter, to be published tomorrow, Blackberry give us four key points on why they are "best in class"

Blackberry say, in the letter:

We have substantial cash on hand and a balance sheet that is debt free. We are restructuring with a goal to cut our expenses by 50 percent in order to run a very efficient, customer-oriented organization.

We are reminded that Blackberry's finest features are:

  • productivity tool -- "we continue to offer the best mobile typing experience"
  • security -- "Have no doubt that you can continue to trust us to keep your communication safe and private."
  • enterprise mobility management -- "We are committed to evolving with our customers"
  • mobile social network -- "We are bringing the most engaging mobile messaging platform to all, with our BBM"

Some of their arguments are flimsy.

I seriously doubt they truly understand what their customers really want; the Z10 has been a disaster after all. It is/was their flagship product, running the much delayed BB10 operating system.

Social networking for them has yet to happen; they say it in the letter by using the future tense -- "we are bringing".

Blackberry had a miserable and much castigated attempted at a BBM rollout for Android and iOS last month. The product was pulled without hours of a phased rollout and we still await the re-release.

Most recently, a consortium stepped forward to purchase Blackberry but that now looks like it may fall through. All in, it has been a tough time for Blackberry!

The letter ends:

You trust your BlackBerry to deliver your most important messages, so trust us when we deliver one of our own: You can continue to count on us.
