I have purposely avoided all the speculation, chatter and twaddle that has been the run up to the much anticipated Apple event today, 4 October 2011.

I can now report on the facts.

Below is a summary of the presentation, but by far the biggest surprise to most people is there is no iPhone 5 announcement!

Key Announcements

  • A new iPhone 4S with a faster A5 processor, 2x faster than before, with dual-core graphics, which are said to be seven times faster.  Battery life is improved giving 8 hours talk time on 3G.  8 mega pixel camera with face detection. 1080p HD video recording. Available in 16, 32 & 64 Gb Black or White
  • iPhone 4S available from 14 October in UK, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Japan. 22 other countries by 28 October.
  • Siri: the intelligent assistant to get things done just by asking.  Talk to your phone .. "Wake me up tomorrow at 6am." Siri responds "Okay, I set it for 6am.";  "What time is it in Paris?" Siri responds: "The time in Paris, France is ...";  "Give me directions to..."; "Remind me to call my wife when I leave work." Siri asks to confirm and makes the reminder. Siri already knew who his wife is and set up a geofence (location based reminder) around work.
  • Siri: Read and Reply to messages by voice; dictation in any app
  • Siri: iPhone 4S only
  • New iPod Nano and Touch
  • iOS 5 will be released 12 October
  • iCloud to wirelessly syncs all your content for free (photos, documents, Music, Apps), again from 12 October
  • iTunes Match to auto add your CD collection to iTunes.  Only available in the USA currently, for $25 per year.  Working hard to bring it to other countries.
  • A recap of the top features of iOS 5
    • iMessage will sync with any of your iOS devices using 3G or Wifi
    • Twitter Integration
    • 'Pull down' Notification
    • Newsstand -- magazine downloads
    • 'Find My Friends' apps to locate friends who share their location
